John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry

An occurence in October of 1859, John Brown, who saw (and thought) of himself as God's chosen prophet to cleanse the land with blood and "eradicate the sin of slaveholding, gathered together 18 men from his band of 22 followers, rowed across the Potomac River from Maryland and seized the federal reserve of or or and military gear in Harper's Ferry. Brown's purpose was to start a guerrilla war from the Appalachians that would eventually spread to the plantations in the South. Unfortunately, Brown and his men could not hold up against the U.S Marines (led by Colonel Robert E. Lee). Brown and the rest of his men were then sent to Virginia and put on trial.
